The History of The Surgeons.
The Surgeons are an old school
punk band from Penzance in deepest Cornwall. This 3 piece high energy band
continue to gig regularly with their distinct brand of old school punk with
over 50 original songs, commenting on anything from sightings of Stan Bowles
In B&Q, the illegal invasion of Iraq to the horrors of Simon Cowell.
The Surgeons story began in
1977, when Pete Kliskey formed Penzance's first punk band The Cramp. This
evolved into The Surgeons when Pete was joined by brother Mike on bass and
Jimmy Jewell on drums.
The band played a number of gigs before making a final appearance in
1984.
23 years later their original
manager from 1977 asked the band to reform for a '30 Years Of Punk Anniversary
Gig' in 2007, which the band agreed to with much trepidation.
Since this 'one off' reunion The
Surgeons have now played over 100 gigs, including support slots with The
Damned, Stiff Little Fingers and Sham 69, from Land's End to Manchester.
As well as their traditional
punk repertoire the band has recently added an unplugged punk/skiffle set and,
bizarrely, some punk poetry excursions.
